Whether you’re brand new to the UK dubber scene or a seasoned road-tripper, you’ll see events described as Camp Outs, Cruises, Day Meets, and Festivals. Here’s what each one typically means — with the vibes, practical details, and what to expect.
Camp Out
A relaxed, back-to-basics weekend focused on the community. Park up in a field (often a farm or dedicated campsite), pitch your awning, and settle in. Unlike festivals, there's rarely a strict schedule—it's about hanging out by the fire, sharing food, and letting the kids (and dogs) run free.
What to expect:
- Communal firepits and maybe acoustic jams in the evening.
- A mix of vehicles: from vintage classics to modern day vans.
- "Open house" vibes where people are happy to show you their van build.
- Best for: Unwinding, making close friends, and families.
Cruise
It’s all about the journey. A 'Cruise' involves meeting at a designated start point and driving in a convoy to a scenic destination, often a coastal town or showground. It’s a rolling car show that turns heads wherever it goes.
What to expect:
- A pre-drive briefing and route map.
- Driving in a line with dozens (or hundreds!) of other dubs.
- Stops for photos and regrouping.
- Finishing up at a destination for a drink or chips.
- Best for: Driving enthusiasts and being part of a spectacle.
Day Meet
The perfect entry point if you’re new to the scene or short on time. These are casual gatherings, usually in a pub car park, park, or seaside promenade, lasting a few hours. No camping gear needed—just turn up, park, and chat.
What to expect:
- Checking out other people’s vans and getting inspiration for your own.
- Swapping technical advice or parts.
- Coffee, cake, or a pub lunch.
- Best for: Beginners, gathering ideas, and a low-commitment social.
Festival
The full experience. These are organized events ranging from intimate club weekends to massive national shows. Expect a full itinerary of live music, trade stands selling camper gear, street food trucks, and dedicated kids’ entertainment.
What to expect:
- Live bands, DJs, and evening entertainment.
- Trade villages to buy parts, accessories, and clothing.
- Separate 'family/quiet' and 'general' camping areas.
- Show & Shine competitions.
- Best for: A fun-filled weekend, shopping, and partying.
